Alloy Steels Heat Treatment
1 +A: Annealed (full/soft/spheroidizing)
2 +N: Normalized
3 +NT: Normalized and tempered
4 +QT: Quenched and tempered (water/oil)
Applications
Steel 4340 is a medium-carbon nickel-chromium-molybdenum steel alloy with excellent tensile strength, toughness, and fatigue resistance. The material is typically supplied in an annealed condition, and additional heat treatments such as oil quenching and tempering or normalizing and tempering can be employed to produce parts with even higher strength and fatigue resistance.
Furthermore, Steel 4340 exhibits impressive wear resistance, particularly in terms of abrasion resistance, shock and impact resistance, and outstanding atmospheric corrosion resistance. The alloy also possesses good ductility, especially when in the annealed condition, making it easily formable and machinable
